Nestled in the idyllic Smoky Mountain foothills, just half an hour outside of Knoxville, Tenn., sits this 4,200-acre property dotted with luxuriously appointed cottages and guest homes. Blackberry Farm, Walland, Tenn.. Constructed on-site using reclaimed lumber out of a two-century-old Pennsylvania barn, the hotel's enormous 14,000-square-foot bank-style barn is both a scenic addition to the rustic landscape and a reminder that the hotel is in fact a working farm. Within, Blackberry's renowned chefs turn the farm's bounty into award-winning cuisine. The Sebastian, Vail, Colo.. A relative newcomer to Vail's celebrity scene, this luxury boutique hotel opened in late 2010 with a modern take on Rocky Mountain parade style. Viceroy Snowmass, Snowmass, Colo.. Unlike average apres-ski hot spots, the Nest Lounge, designed by Kelly Wearstler, is bright and airy without a stacked-stone fireplace or leather club chair in sight. The striking torch-like chandeliers are a nod to midcentury mod although the geometric wooden wall panels are artwork deco-inspired.



Viceroy Snowmass, Snowmass, Colo.. Dramatic mountain views are not the only natural part in each of the guest rooms. The resort, which opened in 2009, is the first luxury resort in Colorado to make LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Architect and designer Jean-Michel Gathy used low-VOC paint, blot and floors in every one of the chambers to get rid of toxic off-gassing. Blackberry Farm, Walland, Tenn.. Country comfort meets high tech features in the hotel's Farmstead Cottage. Botanical renderings have been hand-printed onto waxed parchment to make an antique-look folding screen that conceals a recessed 42-inch wellness TV. Repetition of this room's soft neutral palette in the board-and-batten ceiling, floral fabrics and diamond-patterned sisal rug creates a glistening and restful space.
