2 150-pound gates, sourced at an architectural salvage store in Charleston, provide an interesting focal point that matches tailored, simple interiors. "This is a story of scale, attempting to find something quite interesting, very daring for its fireplace," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "And they just were perfect."
To install gates without damaging the fireplace surround, carpenter David Brown first decided the place of studs and predrilled holes for lag bolts. Four assistants then hoisted gates on a scaffold at which David and a fifth assistant stood prepared to place the gates set up and drive bolts through gates and to the wall and studs.
Inlaid mother-of-pearl and natural bone treasure boxes pop from a distressed pine surface and give a touch of world-chic elegance to casual floral decoration.
Tropical resort-style furnishings blur the line between inside and outside. A cozy club seat with a handwoven rattan framework is dressed in apple-green upholstery, a subtle nod to the glorious palette of marsh colors only steps from the great room's French doors.

"The green at the excellent room is pulled directly in the marsh grass that is observed through all of the windows," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "It's clean, refreshing and vibrant; it gets the 2 spaces one."
